Found in a cellar, half buried and cover in dirt, both the plaster frame and the painting were in very poor condition upon arrival to the studio. In consultation with our paintings conservator and framing technician, the owner made the decision to restore the painting and replace the original plaster frame with a new
custom frame. The conservation treatment was extensive and included mending the canvas support, consolidating flaking paint, surface cleaning, flattening, in-painting losses, and re-varnishing. The walnut and water gilded frame is elegant and refined, and wonderfully enhances the restored painting.
